This article is part of Weekend Combo – What to do this weekend

We bring you our guide to living well in the world’s capitals, from exhibitions to cinema, food, drink, fashion, music and beyond. Just call it culture and take it, it’s yours.

LONDON, FRIDAY 11th SEPTEMBER – MONDAY 13th SEPTEMBER 2015

Film

Blazing
Stoner films seem to be an ongoing trend at the moment (you can mainly thank Seth Rogen for that), but in the past the spaced out genre has provided us with some absolute gems, think Dazed & ConfusedThe Big Lebowski and Dude, Where’s My Car (ahem).

American Ultra is the latest stoner film to roll up (pun very much intended) at cinemas across the globe. Jessie Eisenberg and Kirsten Stewart rekindle the chemistry they found filming Adventureland (2009) playing the pothead couple about to have their lives flipped upside down when Mike (Eisenberg) is suddenly ‘activated’, turns out he’s actually an experimental CIA subject, and they want him expired ASAP (standard). It all results in an all action, full throttle ride, with more flames than you can shake a joint at.

American Ultra, 96 mins. Out now

Drink

Heisenberg Returns
Continuing the narcotics theme – but in no way condoning – head to the meth labs of New Mexico, via Hackney Wick. There you will find a banged up looking RV, with two garden chairs sat outside and some suspicious steam billowing from the roof.

Get the reference yet? You guessed it, Walter White and Jesse Pinkman have pitched up in London by means of a Breaking Bad pop-up bar. Cocktails replace the crystal meth, all bubbling away in glass flasks and test tubes, and there’s an opportunity for you to mix your own, with scientific attention to detail.

Open since July the bar instantly sold out for July through August, but there’re still tickets available for September and October. Haste is a necessity.

Dress code: gas mask and yellow jumpsuit, of course.

ABQ is open through September and October, book a slot here

Gig

Bon Appitite… Bitch!!!!!!!!!!
As one of Hip Hop’s ‘biggest’ stars Action Bronson is currently setting the scene alight with his debut record Mr. Wonderful. But it’s via his hype live sets that the larger than life performer really makes heads turn.

This weekend the ex-chef (yes, you heard right, check out his mega cooking videos, Action in the Kitchen) is hitting Camden’s Roundhouse, a relatively large setting compared to the usual round of intimate venues Bronson thrives on. Expect the unexpected.

Action Bronson plays at Camden Roundhouse on Sunday 13th Sept. Buy tickets here

Exhibition

With a little help from my friends
Ringo Starr recently dug out some dusty old snaps he found laying around the house, and was offered his own exhibition in the National Portrait Gallery to display them.

But these aren’t just Ringo and Babs, Benidorm ’96, these are photographs spanning The Beatles career, from four leather jacket clad lads in Hamburg, to four bearded hippies in India.

“These are shots that no one else could have taken. Together they chart the story of four lads from Liverpool trying to live normal lives amidst the frenzy that surrounded them,” says Starr.

From Paul McCartney messing around to what Ringo jokingly claims to be the first ever selfie, the images show the band from ground level, charming and endearing.

Photograph by Ringo Starr runs at National Portrait Gallery from September 9th.

Drink

BINGO!
In a little side street near Hackney Central there’s a new venue that’s got us hooked.

Run by the good folks behind the Shacklewell Arms and The Adam & Eve, the Moth Club sits in an old military members’ club, complete with dance floor, red velvet booths and a glittery, gold ceiling (think, David Lynch meets Only Fools and Horses).

As well as putting on some killer gigs (Oscar, Skinny Girl Diet and Sunflower Bean are all set to play at the club) the place also maintains the traditions the club was first based on: karaoke, game shows, race nights, film screenings, special cabaret events and a weekly bingo night, of course.

So whip out your bingo daubers and head on down.
