Weekend Combo
Today is International Cat Day, who knew? So celebrate that, in whichever way you see fit.
Weapons is your latest horror obsession
Ever since news broke that Jordan Peele fired his management team after losing a bidding war to acquire Weapons for his production company, the hype surrounding Zach Cregger’s follow-up to Barbarian has been intense. Revolving around a classroom of kids who mysteriously wake up one night and vanish, the story centres on their teacher, played by Julia Garner, as pressure mounts over why it was only her students who disappeared. As you can judge from the trailer, things take a turn for the fucked up pretty fast.
Weapons is out in cinemas now.
25 years of Gorillaz
At the end of this month, Gorillaz are taking over the Copper Box Arena for four massive gigs, performing their first three records in full, as well as a mystery show. Alongside the gigs will be an exhibition at the venue celebrating 25 years of Gorillaz. Titled House of Kong, details so far are scarce, but like anything Gorillaz, it’s bound to be a wild, multi-media trip.

38 Love Lane
Earlier this week, Jamaican-British designer Bianca Saunders partnered with PUMA to mark Jamaican Independence Day, celebrating with the launch of a pop-up on Bethnal Green Road. An extension of the designer’s zine of the same name, the space brings together heritage, identity, and community with a programme of events honouring Caribbean creativity through fashion, music, photography, wellness, and food.
38 Love Lane runs at 137A Bethnal Green Road, E2 7DG until Sunday 10th.
“The world is a vampire…”
Musically, this weekend offers something special, as The Smashing Pumpkins hit up Gunnersbury Park for a one-day-only, open-air gig. Riding the wave of their sprawling Aghori era, Billy Corgan and co. arrive armed with a back catalogue that defined a generation – a wave of fuzzed-out bliss and stadium-sized melancholy. With Skunk Anansie and White Lies in tow, the energy is pure 90s alt-rock nostalgia – a full-circle moment for the goth teens that were, and a loud awakening for the ones just arriving.
The Smashing Pumpkins play Gunnersby Park on Sunday 10th August.
Jawara’s new home
If Jawara Alleyne’s signature safety pin creations have been on your mind, then you’re in luck; the designer has just opened the doors to a unique East London concept space called 7.5. Accessed via Instagram DM and intentionally unmarked, the store opens with a special collaboration with artist Alvaro Barrington, and will develop across a series of interdisciplinary activations, challenging the idea of the traditional retail experience.
