Dennis Morris, Music + Life
This weekend is set to be hot, hot, HOT! So head to your nearest park and go full Sexy Beast.
Hot Milk
Adapted from Deborah Levy’s 2016 novel of the same name, Hot Milk follows the turbulent dynamics of a mother-daughter duo embarking on a life-altering trip to Spain. Emma Mackey and Fiona Shaw take on the leading roles of Sofia and Rose, seeking a cure for Rose’s disabling chronic pain that has put a strain on the pair’s disjointed relationship. On the trip to a medical clinic in the Mediterranean, Sofia becomes embroiled in an affair with a mysterious stranger named Ingrid, awakening repressed sexual desires and dreams of a life independent from her mother’s grip.
Hot Milk is out in cinemas now.
Snapshot of the 70s
Jamaican-born, London-raised photographer Dennis Morris is celebrated for his iconic portraits of Bob Marley, capturing the legendary musician up close on stage and off throughout the course of his career. Now, a large-scale retrospective has arrived at The Photographer’s Gallery, bringing together Morris’ work from the most pivotal moments in 20th-century culture documenting the music scene and those who populated it. From intimate portraits of Marley, Marianne Faithfull, and the Sex Pistols, to his powerful street-level documentation of Black and Asian communities in 70s Hackney and Southall, the show cements Morris as a defining eye of British counterculture.
Dennis Morris: Music + Life runs at The Photographer’s Gallery until 28th September, more info here.
