Fashion Week has landed in London, so we’re busy. But we’re never too busy to get stuck into what’s happening across the city. Here’s your debrief…

Release your inner emo
Showing as part of the London Short Film Festival, Let’s Go Emo! celebrates the highs, lows and community of emo culture. Taking over Dalston Rio on Saturday 19th, the night brings together a programme of shorts charting the subculture in all its melodramatic glory – from early YouTube videos to TikToks, Reels and lo-fi found footage. The screening is set to be followed by a badge-making workshop, giving you the chance to make your own piece of emo memorabilia. Eyeliner heavily advised.

Shop floor drama
Victoria Miro’s new exhibition sees artist Hernan Bas celebrate the unsung rituals of retail. Titled TIME TO SHINE! (the salesmen), the exhibition brings together new paintings populated by perfume spritzers, market traders, shop assistants and other in-store characters suddenly given their due. Embracing the fading rituals of one-to-one commerce, Bas elevates these fleeting encounters with an evocative theatricality – transforming the shop floor into a stage of subtle drama.

TIME TO SHINE! (the salesmen) runs until 14th November.

beabadoobee in church
Marking the release of her new record, Pylon, beabadoobee is doing two very special performances at Hackney Church: a matinee and an evening show. With both performances set to offer a rare chance to see the singer in such an intimate setting, the setlist will no doubt debut new tracks from Pylon, which features collaborations with Turnstile’s Brendan Yates and Hayley Williams, amongst others.

As part of London Design Festival, Hart Shoreditch has invited contemporary artist Mali Mowcka to take over the hotel’s UBA restaurant. Transforming the space into an immersive exhibition, Mowcka has created more than 160 suspended, handcrafted wooden pieces that descend from the ceiling and drift into the room below. The work draws on the Japanese concept of Yūgen – a philosophy centred on the subtle, mysterious beauty that exists beyond what is immediately visible – evoking the soft, natural rhythms of clouds and waves.

Extra pickles, please
If you’ve had a Dumbo burger, you’ll know this is big news: the French burger bar has opened a new location in Soho. Having first landed in Shoreditch – where queues quickly snaked around the block – Dumbo has brought its minimalist menu of smashburgers and tempura nuggets to a second London address. We’re simple people: in our opinion, the more Dumbos, the better.
