New worlds
Having previously taken us to Essex’s finest cruising spots and on an overnight stay in a department store, this season London design duo Cottweiler – broken down as Matthew Dainty and Ben Cottrell – are truly shaking things up.
Embracing the digital, their SS20 show eschews the traditional form for a special digital runway that will be premiered on Boiler Room’s 4:3 film platform during Paris Fashion Week Men’s. In terms of inspiration? Dainty’s Egyptian roots play a major part, especially following a recent trip to a desert oasis – we’re preparing to experience a truly disorientating mirage.
Last season we got a trip to Essex’ cruising spots, where are we heading this season?
Cottweiler: This season we are heading online to Boiler Room’s 4:3 for a really special digital runway directed by Daniel Swan which will be premiered on 19th June during Paris Fashion Week.
Has anything happened to you since SS20 that has influenced this collection?
C: We travelled to the Middle East and to a desert oasis in Egypt.
What excites you the most about this season?
C: We’re really excited about collaborating with Natacha Atlas and Samy Bishai for the soundtrack. Natacha is an iconic Anglo-Egyptian musician and it’s been a real honour working with her.
Any key sources of inspiration?
C: Matthew’s grandmother was born and brought up in and around Cairo and it was her archive of photographs from Egypt that was the original source of inspiration.
The Cottweiler SS20 show will be premiered via Boiler Room on 19th June.
