The only way is Essex
Cottweiler FW19 invite
From the zen-like tranquility of their New Age Cults collection for SS19, Cottweiler are returning with something substantially moodier for FW19. With a capsule collaboration for Italian outerwear brand Allegri under their belts, the fruits of their labours will be shown alongside their mainline this weekend, offering an appetite-whetter for the subversive take on menswear tailoring that forms the basis of their new collection.
Ben Cottrell and Matthew Dainty are rightly known for their streetwear-heavy designs, but this season promises more as the pair look for sartorial inspiration from traditional masculine dress codes, exploring deepest Essex to uncover the collision point of rural vs urban.
Cottweiler FW19 invite
Last season saw your man go through a spiritual awakening, where’s he at now?
“This season has a much darker feel to it. We are exploring traditional dress codes of masculinity and trying to challenge what they mean.”
Has anything happened to you since SS19 that has influenced this collection?
“Since last summer we have been developing a capsule collection for the Italian outerwear company Allegri. The capsule will be presented alongside our mainline collection for London Fashion Week Men’s and it will be the first time we have presented a fully tailored outerwear collection based on the classic trench coat.”
What excites you the most about this season?
“We love to design the winter collection because we can develop more styles, especially in knitwear and outerwear.”
Any key sources of inspiration?
“A lot of the inspiration has come from Matthew’s hometown in Essex, which is on the edge of Epping Forest. It’s a place where the urban environment meets nature and we have been researching how one affects the other, both socially and environmentally.”
Cottweiler will show their FW19 collection on Sunday 6th at 20:00.
