Leonardo DiCaprio’s new National Geographic climate change documentary, Before the Flood, is now available to stream in full for free on YouTube.
Featuring a soundtrack by Nine Inch Nails’ Trent Reznor and Mogwai, the documentary sees the Academy Award-winning actor travel around the world to visit the places where the effects of global warming are felt the most.
As well as meeting influential global figures such as Pope Francis, Barack Obama, and Elon Musk, DiCaprio interviews researchers, innovators, and people living in parts of the world where severe impacts of climate change are already being felt.
The official synopsis reads: “Before the Flood, directed by Fisher Stevens, captures a three-year personal journey alongside Academy Award-winning actor and U.N. Messenger of Peace Leonardo DiCaprio as he interviews individuals from every facet of society in both developing and developed nations who provide unique, impassioned and pragmatic views on what must be done today and in the future to prevent catastrophic disruption of life on our planet.”
In February this year the 41-year-old actor won his first Oscar and used this platform to address urgent climate issues close to his heart. “Climate change is real,” he said. “It is happening right now. It is the most urgent threat affecting our species. We need to work together and stop procrastinating.”
Below, watch Leonardo DiCaprio, President Barack Obama and Texas Tech University climate scientist Katherine Hayhoe discuss climate change, prior to a premiere screening of Before the Flood.
