Danish born designer Astrid Andersen has made two major leaps in one go, marking the debut of her Bespoke Collection at her first ever catwalk presentation at New York Fashion Week.

This latest development is a super-premium extension of the Danish designer’s FW15 collection – essentially with the addition of a mega onslaught of fur – using luxury textiles and refined techniques in a fusion of techno-tailoring that echoes construction values closer to couture than streetwear. Working with Kopenhagen Fur, Andersen produced textured mink sweatshirts, jerseys and heavily layered outerwear, her gang accessorised with military hats and fur-lined hoods in a moody palette of charcoal, python green and blood red.

Add New York as locale and you’ve got a heavy hitting mix. The city itself has consistently played a key role in the formation of Andersen’s designs, drawing on personal experience, hip hop culture and global urban codes in her ever-punchy collections and beat-heavy shows.

Andersen is a quickly ascending designer whose creed is founded firmly in the booming realm of sportswear. That she should right now be nudging of this market’s traditional bounds towards new levels of luxury is a clever move. If you weren’t already, watch this space.
