Glaze Craze
Following his appointment at Dior, Jonathan Anderson announced a rebrand of his namesake label in June. Unveiling a new logo and concept, the designer’s sights are set on expanding his growing dialogue across fashion, art and craft. It is therefore no surprise that the brand’s first collaboration under this vision sees Anderson join forces with iconic British dinnerware house Wedgwood. An ode to the renowned British potter Lucie Rie, known for her meticulous approach to technical craft and sgraffito decoration, Wedgwood and Anderson are bringing her designs into the 21st century.
Handmade from Jasperware, the collection comprises a series of cups and saucers in Jasper blue, accented by white inlays with a matte finish, alongside a series of mugs in blues, chocolate browns and buttery yellows. Proceeds from the collaboration will contribute to the Lucy Rie and Hans Coper Foundation, preserving the importance of archival material and establishing creative scholarships for future generations.
Speaking on the partnership, Anderson said; “It’s a chance to honour a collaboration she always hoped would happen. What’s truly remarkable is that Wedgwood has now realised these designs in the way she envisioned them. Lucie Rie is one of the greatest potters of the 20th Century. I’ve been collecting her work for many years, and I think she would be thrilled to see these pieces finally brought to life, especially in this charitable context.”
