Pump the jam
Still from ‘Shades of Cool’ by Lana Del Rey
We’re rinsing this weather for all its got, asking designers with more than a passing interest in music to share what’s rattling their speakers. Next up, it’s Kenzo.
Since taking the reigns as co-creative directors in 2008, Carol Lim and Humberto Leon have proved they not only have their SoCal fingers on the pulse of what the people want to wear, but what they want to hear. Alongside jungle fever, sweatshirt cult-ure and one of the biggest brand reinvigorations we’ve seen this side of the past decade, they’ve brought talked-about soundtracks. There was M.I.A. (SS13 womenswear), Nicolas Godin of Air (SS13 menswear) and even Jason Schwartzman (who not only wrote the soundtrack for the debut SS12 show but also played drums live). And of course there was SS15 menswear, arguably the best yet with Disclosure’s hell-for-leather speed garage mix jacking its way along the Seine. Yep, we’re talking Double 99’s RIP Groove.
Earlier this year, the duo had a sling of folk creating LA-inspired playlists for the Kenzo blog, Kenzine. It’s now August and with summer in full swing we thought we’d flip it and see what tracks are currently on rotation in the Kenzo studio.
If you love a pop banger, from Bey-to-Twigs this’ll be right up your street. If not, just throw back a Breezer and go with it.
