Boys on film

See Saint Laurent’s FW17 menswear campaign
By Tempe Nakiska | Fashion | 27 January 2017

In recent months we’ve seen several black and white campaign videos from Saint Laurent, witnessing everything from model club gangs reading Andy Warhol texts to Travi$ Scott burning rubber in the West Coast desert. Now comes #YSL05, the new campaign featuring the Winter 2017 menswear collection.

The campaign features photographs by Collier Schorr, put together as a “personal and sensitive” DIY collage of folders, Polaroids and photo clips. It’s also a prelude to the men’s collection itself – designed by Anthony Vaccarello – and set to debut in February as part of the house’s show.

The campaign video was shot in Paris by Nathalie Canguilhem, capturing a group of boys as they’re led on an unsettling journey by actor and musician Lukas Ionesco (previously seen in Larry Clark’s The Smell of Us). Blurring the line between reality and fantasy, the models faces intertwine with Ionesco’s, as he shoots his angelic disciples on a handheld camera and repeats, “It’s my movie, it’s my world, it’s my head.” See the film below.

The campaign is a taster of the collection, giving a closer idea of what we should expect of Vaccarello’s vision for Saint Laurent menswear come 28th February. Along with slim-fitting black suits, there’s a lot of denim and leather, juxtaposed with glimmering finishes. But as to Vaccarello’s full perspective on the Saint Laurent man, we’ll have to wait and see.

Saint Laurent’s Winter 2017 menswear collection will debut in Paris on the 28th February. Stay tuned to HERO for the latest on fashion week.
