Diesel is bringing party to Tokyo this September to celebrate 30 years in Japan. The Italian fashion house is hosting a three-pronged celebration of the country that continues to be an endless source of success – and inspiration.

“I have always been in love with Japan. I visit the country regularly – just as my design team, we do our research there, so one could definitely say that Japan always played and still plays a big part in Diesel’s global success!” says Renzo Rosso, Diesel founder. Just think back to June, where Diesel Black Gold creative director Andreas Melbostad took his SS17 cue from a mix of workwear essentials and kimono cuts.

The celebration will kick off on the 6th September, in three parts. Firstly, Diesel will present its FW16 collection in a catwalk show, with pieces being available immediately afterwards in store and online. Secondly, there will be a special retrospective exhibition will showcase the brand’s iconic archive pieces dating all the way back to 1978, curated by Diesel creative director Nicola Formichetti. And finally, Diesel will launch two denim capsule collections and three Japanese designer collaborations – one of which is with the winner of emerging designer competition ITS, Yuko Koike.

“I dedicate this 30th anniversary to Diesel’s Japanese supporters, who always push us to do more and better. We have some new crazy, cool Diesel stuff being put together for this anniversary, with a show and an exclusive heritage exhibition!” – Renzo Rosso, Diesel founder

“Japan is where I was born and it has always played a prominent role in my creative process, being a constant source of inspiration, being a huge part of who I am. And now it’s a match made in heaven for me, as artistic director of Diesel, to be able to celebrate 30 amazing years of Diesel in Japan,” Formichetti says.
