Tír na nÓg
Back in February, Simone Rocha staged her LFW show inside the Alexandra Palace theatre. Titled, Tír na nÓg, the collection told stories of the Celtic Otherworld and characters orbiting a land of eternal youth. That spirit of forever adolescence manifested in a partnership with adidas Originals, unveiling one of the most talked-about collaborations of the season.
Key adidas silhouettes are given a distinctly Rocha makeover as three-stripe track jackets bloom at the sleeve, baby pink jersey tops are adorned with frills, and zippers are replaced by a large singular pearl. “Sportswear is something I’ve wanted to explore for a long time,” said Rocha. “What interested me about working with adidas Originals was the opportunity to bring my own design language to something with such a strong identity. It was never about changing what already exists, but about revealing another perspective. The collection feels very authentic to both of us.” Frilled three-stripe dresses are paired with the designer’s footwear offering, arriving in three silhouettes: the SR Taekwondo Ballerina, the SR Climacool and the SR Japan Fuzzy Slip On.
And if you thought the collab looked good on the runway, it’s now been brought to life in a campaign by US photographer Justine Kurland, set amongst a leafy forest with models lounging on tree branches in a dreamy vignette of girlhood.
Simone Rocha x adidas Originals launches on September 10th.
