Cinematic campaign
Prada has long been a house with intrinsic ties to cinema, whether it be by delivering collections inspired by filmmakers such as Rainer Werner Fassbinder and David Lynch, or enlisting the likes of Willem Dafoe and Gary Oldman to walk the runway. This season follows suit with Academy-Award winning filmmaker Barry Jenkins stepping behind the lens for the brand’s FW26 campaign. Described as an “antidote to the complexity of life,” Jenkins distils the ease of Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons’ FW26 collections by inviting the viewer into domestic intimacy and normalcy, reframing garments from the runway to everyday living.
It’s a principle reflected in the simplicity of the brand’s FW26 womenswear show Inside Prada, where just fifteen models wore sixty looks – a true realisation of the adaptability of Prada’s designs. The design duo’s menswear followed suit, meditating on the fraught world around us through a series of pared-back silhouettes, slender and refined yet ready to face whatever the day may bring.
Titled Simple Stories, the film stars friends of the house Troye Sivan, Hunter Schafer, Chen Haoyu and Kelvin Harrison Jr. in a series of vignettes which bring both the women’s and men’s collections to life. Offering an insight into a heightened version of these A-listers’ realities, the “gesture of each brings clothes into a rapport with their bodies, an expression of their individuality.”
