VATISIMO
Hot off the heels of news that Willy Chavarria is introducing an accessible new diffusion line, Big Willy, the designer is offering up another opportunity to bag some of his designs at affordable prices with a forthcoming Zara collaboration. Set to hit stores later this week, Chavarria’s signature Americana-infused tailoring and tracksuiting is to be offered at one of the world’s largest retailers “without dilution and without compromise for both men and women with discerning style.”
Titled VATISIMO, the collection takes its name from the superlative form of ‘vato,’ a colloquial term in the Chicano community for friends and loved ones. Drawing inspiration from American workwear and Chicano culture – a mainstay in all of Chavarria’s ready-to-wear collections – the capsule features signature pieces such as boxy revere-collar blazers, structured suit trousers, bomber jackets and slogan tees.
The accompanying campaign film was shot in Mexico and directed by British photographer Glen Luchford, starring supermodel Christy Turlington, Cuban actor Alberto Guerra, and Willy himself. Taking the form of a telenovela, the cast of characters brings the collection to life as they navigate a fatal love quadrangle within an opulent hacienda.
The collection launches globally on March 26th, in selected stores and online at ZARA.com.
