Act One
Since Kiko Kostadinov first collaborated with ASICS in 2018, every subsequent drop has become more sought after than the last. The pair’s latest offering was first unveiled at the brand’s FW25 show, reinterpreting the tabi marathon shoes initially developed in the 1950s as low-top fabric runners and high-top boots. The infampus split toe silhouette titled ILARGI FF, arrives in two colourways, launching in a sleek all-black and a black and blue dual tone pair.
To accompany the launch, Kostadinov has announced a year-long creative partnership with American artist and filmmaker Ryan Trecartin. Best known for his prescient takes on popular culture and surrealist creative style, Trecartin’s uncanny portraits capture a cast of fifteen Japanese actors kitted out in Kostadinov’s design across various locations in Tokyo and Okinawa. Following the pair’s previous collaborations on site-specific interventions at the brand’s flagship stores, this campaign is the first in a series of episodic works set to be unveiled throughout the year, culminating in a full-length project by Trecartin, titled BUCKLE YUP, to be released as the grand finale.
