Nicholas Daley’s Carhartt WIP collection is an ode to subculture and family

In a meeting of subcultural sensibility, Carhartt WIP is teaming up with London-based designer Nicholas Daley on a FW25 capsule collection. Since founding his eponymous label in 2015, Daley has continued to honour his dual-ethnic heritage, being of Jamaican and Scottish descent. The designer’s collections often meditate on the multiculturalism of British identity, inspired by its subcultures and ever-evolving musical landscape. Hence why a kinship was found with Carhartt WIP, whose iconic wardrobe staples are often worn by DJs, skaters and club-goers across the globe.

The collection is an ode to the pioneering reggae club night founded by Daley’s parents, first hosted in Edinburgh in 1972, and subsequently across Scotland until 1982. The thirteen-piece wardrobe reimagines traditional workwear silhouettes with the designer’s signature eccentricity, featuring tartan Harrington jackets, contrast stitch denim and double-knee pants – each embossed with a co-branded 70s psychedelic typography logo. Punctuated by new iterations of music ephemera, co-branded pin badges and t-shirts are collection standouts, alongside record bags created in collaboration with the knitting circle Daley’s mother organises.

Bolade Banjo shot the accompanying campaign against the backdrop of South London community members’ venue, Peckham Liberal Club, starring London-based musicians Wu-Lu and Mia Koden and US rapper Pink Siifu, fully kitted out in Daley’s Baker Boy caps and retro cordoury.

The collection will officially launch online at Carhartt WIP and Nicholas Daley on October 23rd.
