Playing Tourist
Pioneers of outerwear for more than 165 years, Burberry is continuing to bring its heritage to a new audience. In a new instalment of the brand’s It’s Always Burberry Weather series, this time around the focus is on the British capital. Titled Postcards from London, Shakespeare in Love director John Madden, casts Academy Award winner Olivia Colman and fellow campaign stars in a series of four vignettes. In each film, Colman takes on an array of London locals, embodying a cricket enthusiast, a chip shop worker and a busker in which she encounters models Amelia Gray, Liu Wen, Lucky Blue Smith, Mona Tougaard and Tyson Beckford doubling up as first-time tourists. “Each film celebrates just a few of the many characters you’ll encounter in London,” says Daniel Lee, Chief Creative Officer.
The new collection plays on proportion, transforming the traditional identity of rainwear. The classic Castleford trench returns alongside the new Fitzrovia coat, crafted in Yorkshire and complete with a voluminous A-line silhouette. The Chestwood takes its inspiration from an archive Burberry trench from the 1980s while The Floriston jacket reinvents a quintessential quilted piece. True to form, the British house are offering up a collection fusing heritage with the future, kitting out wearers in outerwear excellence.
