Crafted World
Having first launched in Shanghai in 2024, the next stop on Loewe’s travelling exhibition tour has just been announced and the Spanish brand will be taking up residency in Tokyo this spring. Spanning 179 years, the retrospective intricately unpicks the Spanish brand’s innovative approach to fashion and craft, documenting the progression from its early years as a leather-making collective to a luxury fashion house.
Through a sequence of interactive rooms, the exhibition transports visitors to a front-row seat at Paris Fashion Week, inside the world of Studio Ghibli and to the Kyoto-based ceramics studio of Suna Fujita, who inspired the brand’s recent collection. A series of one-off garments designed by Jonathan Anderson will also be on display including bespoke stage looks for Beyoncé’s Renaissance World Tour 2023 and Taylor Russell’s 2024 Met Gala gown.
In honour of the brand’s longstanding presence in Tokyo, the showcase includes a curated series of works and architectural interventions from the house’s collaborations and cultural projects across Japan, including works from Japanese artists spotlighted in the Loewe Foundation Craft Prize and a film exploring the brand’s support for the Ōnishi family, who have been crafting ceremonial Kama tea kettles in Kyoto for over 400 years.
Crafted World Tokyo will be on display from 29 March to 11 May at 6-35-6 Jingumae Shibuya-ku, Tokyo.
