Palace x Vivienne Westwood is pure skatepark rebellion
By Ella Joyce | Fashion | 2 September 2024

After a week of teasers and rumours, the Vivienne Westwood x Palace collaboration has been revealed. And it’s very good. Born from a shared anti-spirit and predisposition for shaking up the status quo, the collection refashions Vivienne Westwood’s rebellious, tailored codes with the British skate brand’s synonymous streetwear aesthetic.

Consisting of clothing, accessories, jewellery and skateboards (naturally), the collection sees Palace step into the world of womenswear for the first time. Archival Westwood silhouettes and motifs are given a new lease of life as the designer’s iconic SS92 ‘Salon’ print is resurrected across GORE-TEX jackets, track pants and skirts, and Westwood’s classic corsets are reworked in monochromatic satin and printed with graphics of Palace founder, Lev Tanju’s dog Stuart. Oversized teddy bear bags are inspired by Westwood’s ‘90s iconography, devil horns pierce berets, and logo tees fuse Palace’s hallmark triangle with Westwood’s signature orb.

Accompanying campaign imagery shot on the streets of London by Japanese photographer Shoichi Aoki, founder of Japanese street-style magazine FRUiTS, embodies the eclectic nature of the collection. A host of artists, musicians, skaters, goths and activists are photographed wearing the collection in their individual style. The campaign will be collated into a limited-edition zine, available for free with every purchase in-store.

Speaking on the collection, Westwood creative director Andreas Kronthaler said, “From the first day I went to Palace years ago, I liked what they are doing. Their designs are made with quality, they are accessible and democratic. It felt natural for us to join forces, it was a very playful exercise, and it was a pleasure working with the team and making new friends.”

“Collaborating with Vivienne Westwood, it’s a massive thing for us: we love them, and we always have,” shares Palace co-founder Tanju. “To bring this collection to life was a dream come true and we wanted to shoot the collection in London, our shared home. Palace is independent, Vivienne Westwood is independent, and we admire independence.”

The collection will be available to shop from September 6th.
