Founded by renowned hairstylist Mark Hampton, The Oilbird Gallery is the newest addition to Downtown LA’s ever-growing art scene. Opening its doors today, the space is being christened with a solo exhibition from Spanish-Guinean multidisciplinary artist Chidy Wayne. Based in Barcelona, Wayne’s varied practice spans sculpture, illustration, painting and music drawing inspiration from his ancestral heritage.

Presenting a series of semi-figurative pieces manipulating colour and form, Wayne’s latest body of work is centred around hands, and the distortion of these shapes etched in charcoal and sweeping brushstrokes on large-scale canvas and paper. Turning to a more intimate form of self-expression, the artist’s ever-changing style reflects the evolution of his design language as shapes shift to mirror an ongoing journey of self-discovery.

The Oilbird is located at 530 S Hewitt St, CA, 90013, more info here
