Cultural Partnership
Valentino is no stranger to the storied world of literature, for SS24, the brand’s show took place at The University of Milan and paid homage to Hanya Yanagihara’s A Little Life, using the devastating story riddled with abuse, trauma and violence to paint an evolving portrait of masculinity. Therefore, it is no surprise that the Italian house has just been announced as the new sponsor of the International Booker Prize.
The Maison’s involvement signifies their commitment to fostering global arts and culture, aside from Pierpaolo Piccioli’s Yanagihara-inspired collection last season, Valentino has reflected upon the work of various Booker Prize nominated authors in the past such as Leila Mottley, Elif Shafak and Mieko Kawakami. Recognised as the most respected guide to the world’s best fiction, Booker Prizes have gone on to become some of the most well-read novels in modern history, this year’s nominated authors are Jenny Epenbeck, Itamar Vieira Junior, Selva Almada, Jente Posthuma, Hwan Sok-yong and IA Genberg. Thanks to Valentino’s support 500 sets of the shortlist will be sent to libraries across the UK via The Reading Agency, ensuring literature is made accessible to the masses.
