Sabato De Sarno has kept it pretty low-key since his appointment as Gucci’s creative director at the beginning of last year, but now the house is giving him a proper access-all-areas introduction with the release of a new documentary. Premiering exclusively on Mubi today, Who is Sabato de Sarno? – A Gucci Story, delves into the designer’s inaugural collection Ancora which made its debut at the SS24 runway show in Milan.

Inviting audiences to take a peak behind fashion’s elusive curtain, the 20-minute short film brings together never before seen footage of Gucci’s new era, a shift from Alessandro Michele’s maximalist aesthetic which has turned more to Tom Ford’s 00s minimalism. The collaborative efforts of De Sarno and his team are filmed up close and personal, highlighting the collective vision and teamwork which underpins Gucci’s creative process. What’s more, the whole thing is narrated by actor and house ambassador Paul Mescal – a treat for the eyes and ears.
