Everyone’s fave horror director and composer John Carpenter is returning in May with another edition of his Lost Themes album series — Lost Themes IV: Noir. The first single, My Name is Death, has just dropped and its video features musicians Weyes Blood, The Paranoyds and SadGirl.

It’s been a decade since John Carpenter recorded the material that would become Lost Themes, his debut album of non-film music which kickstarted a musical renaissance for the pioneering director. In the years since, Carpenter, along with his son Cody Carpenter and godson Daniel Davies, has released close to a dozen musical projects including the scores for David Gordon Green’s trilogy of Halloween reboots.

The new single, My Name is Death, feels like new territory for Carpenter. A driving, almost punkish bassline initiates the action, before being joined by washes of atmospheric synth, pulsing drum machine, and, at the song’s climax, a smouldering guitar solo.
