Fashion Round-Up

ICYMI: S.S.Daley in Florence, summer camp with Natasha Zinko and Jamie Dornan in Loewe

Time flies, so to keep you in the loop, we’ve rounded up all the important snippets of fashion news from the past seven days into one neat feature. This week includes Wales Bonner’s SS24 campaign, a Courrèges record shop and Moncler’s menswear drop.

S.S.Daley excelled at Pitti
The Liverpudlian designer went overseas this season, showing as a special guest at Pitti Uomo. Inside the opulent Florence town hall, Daley gave us a lesson in Oxbridge dressing (and undressing) and E.M. Forster prose.

Plus, the show aligned with the news that Harry Styles has invested a minority stake in the brand – big day for Steven!

The Natasha Zinko summer camp continues
Continuing the summer camp story of her SS24 collection, Zinko’s PF24 Back 2 Camp collection saw the narrative turn towards winter. The ‘muscle and mud’ narrative remained, only this time the leathers have turned to shearling, and knee-length boots covered with cargo pockets are (somewhat) practical essentials. Even your briefs are rendered in leather-shearling – hidden luxury. Upcycled denim scraps become a trucker jacket and skirt, and padded silhouettes build us up for the winter freeze.

Wales Bonner’s Marathon campaign dropped
Wales Bonner’s archival sportswear silhouettes set the pace for her SS24 collection in the accompanying campaign’s ode to the long-distance runner. The designer’s elevated tracksuits and tailoring are captured on world champion runners Tamirat Tola and Yomif Kejelcha in the streets of Paris by photographer Malick Bodian.

Todd Snyder opened Pitti
Presenting his runway in two halves: Act 1 — “Black Label” for his work as Creative Director of Woolrich’s Black Label, and Act 2 – “The Modernist” for his namesake brand. This season Snyder took inspiration from Modernist works: paintings of Franz Kline and the designs of Ferdinand Alexander Porsche and Arne Jacobsen.

Fendi Factory recruited new staff

A trio of actors – Chinese actor and singer Kuanghan Hsu, American actor Jeremy Pope and Italian actor Massimiliano Caiazzo – front Fendi’s new campaign, mirroring the setting of the House’s new Tuscan factory. Fendi coffee cups: yes.

John Alexander Skelton took us to church
Illuminated by candlelight at first, John Alexander Skelton’s FW24 cast mazed through St Bartholomew the Great, London’s oldest surviving church, set to the dark, ethereal sound of This Mortal Coil.

Typical Skelton, cross-era references weaved in and out, using the Shakespeare-coined phrase: “what dreams may come when we shuffle off this mortal coil” as a springboard – a phrase that, as the shownotes pointed out, inspired a Monty Python sketch as well as the 80s musical collective whose music soundtracked the show. This narrative translated across a collection imbued with individual stories. Reframing classic British styles, characters appeared in buttoned robes, felt nightcaps, debonair tailoring and golden crowns. We even spotted a Todd Lynn catwalk cameo.

Moncler’s SS24 menswear drop
Embodying the Italian house’s codes of sophistication and wearability, Moncler’s latest menswear collection is inspired by the sartorial aesthetic of the modern metropolis. Sumptuous suede and leather meet technical fabrics in a series of contemporary bomber jackets, fine knitwear and cotton tees, ensuring a wardrobe fit for the city dweller. Shot on the streets of Madrid, the accompanying campaign features Argentinian actor Joaquín Furriel in this season’s offering.
