After three years at the helm of Givenchy, creative director Matthew M. Williams is relinquishing his duties. Having taken over following the departure of Claire Waight Keller in April 2020, Williams has since steered the French house into new territory. Effective as of January 1st 2024, the designer’s last collections for Givenchy will be pre-fall 2024 set to unveil over the next few days. The designer is parting ways to fully dedicate himself to the development of his own brand 1017 ALYX 9SM which was founded in 2015 and has recently joined a new partnership with Hong Kong-based entrepreneur, Adrian Cheng. In the meantime, Givenchy is yet to announce Williams’ predecessor.
Speaking on his departure, Williams said: “Leading the creative direction of Givenchy was, as I said upon my arrival in 2020, the dream of a lifetime. Over these three years, I have strived to perpetuate Mr. Hubert de Givenchy’s legacy while bringing my own creative vision and I would like to sincerely thank the studio, Renaud de Lesquen, and LVMH for this incredible opportunity.”
