Amiri have released their FW23 Icon campaign featuring legendary NYC hip-hop duo Black Star – aka Yasiin “Mos Def” Bey and Talib Kweli.

Expanding the FW23 collection story, which riffed on the process behind musical studio production, of improvisation, jamming and layering, the campaign features two of the best in the business. Black Star’s seminal 1998 record, Mos Def & Talib Kweli Are Black Star, is regarded as one of hip-hop’s most influential works, while the duo recently reunited for their long-awaited sophomore album No Fear of Time. Drawing on the duo’s layered, rhythmic compositions, here they wear looks from the collection that mirror that sophisticated ease: a double-breasted brushed wool overcoat over a dress shirt, Argyle knits paired with pleated skate-inspired pants, sneakers and headwear that fuses 50s and 90s tropes – eras fundamental to US youth culture and that directly inspire the collection.
