Out of this world
Wes Anderson goes intergalactic. After cast, imagery and plot teasers, the trailer for Wes Anderson’s upcoming Asteroid City in 2021 has landed – and it’s major. Set to premiere at the 76th Cannes Film Festival in May, this new work tells the story of an American desert town’s Junior Stargazer convention circa 1955. Gathering students and parents from across the country for the scholarly competition, a series of world-changing events spectacularly disrupt the events itinerary. Cue nerdy sci-fi kids, desert landscapes and alien quips – all cast in Anderson’s signature aesthetic.
Known for his recurring circle of A-list cast members, Anderson’s latest project is certainly no different. Here, seasoned regulars Jason Schwartzman, Tilda Swinton, Adrien Brody and Willem Dafoe are joined by an extensive list of first timers including the likes of Scarlett Johansson, Tom Hanks, Margot Robbie Maya Hawke and Steve Carell. Set to be a cosmic comedy full of all the tropes that make Wes Anderson movies inherently Wes Anderson, Astroied City hits UK cinemas on 23rd June.
