funk and flowers
After being teased late last year, confirmation has finally arrived and Marni x Carhartt WIP is real. Arriving later this month, Marni’s technicolour world is officially meeting Carhartt WIP’s relaxed workwear sensibility. Combining Carhartt’s utilitarian silhouettes with Marni’s craftful approach to colour and print, the ready-to-wear collection twists both brands’ signature codes together through unexplored territories.
Now presented in its entirety, the capsule is defined by recurring bold floral motifs, colour blocking and sumptuous textiles. A two-tone clover print in green-on-white and yellow-on-black sits atop Carhartt WIP’s classic Active Jacket, work pants, bucket hats and tote bags while jersey tees are overlayed with basketball tanks, carving hybrid codes. If a more understated approach is your thing, look towards those neutral-toned corduroy and canvas car coats and overshirts accented by a cherry red collar. Shearling and calfskins add richness to typically rugged styles, and slip-on sneakers complete the line-up.
Accompanied by a campaign starring iconic funk musician Bootsy Collins joined by his wife Patti, grandson Vincent and musician Babyxsosa in their Cincinnati home, this musical approach runs deep: the collection marks the beginning of Marni Jam, a multidisciplinary program set to unfold globally, kickstarted by an in-store jam session during Milan Fashion Week.
The collection will release on January 14th, and will be available at Marni.com, in Marni boutiques and selected multi-brand stores across the globe, as well as selected Carhartt WIP flagships.
