As the year comes to a close we’re already on the lookout for what to add to 2023’s cultural calendar: arriving at Saatchi Gallery in February is a comprehensive journey across the world of street art. Beyond The Streets marks the first time in eight years a show has taken over the entirety of the 70,000 square foot gallery space. Supported by adidas Originals, the retrospective pays homage to iconic moments from graffiti, street art, hip-hop and punk while honouring the creative minds who immortalised them.

Featuring original art, rare ephemera, photography, immersive installations and archival fashion from over 150 artists, the exhibition explores the narrative shift surrounding the public perception of underground art and culture – influencing change and challenging authority every step of the way.

Notable names include the likes of US photojournalist Martha Cooper, whose most prolific work emerged from photographing New York City’s graffiti scene during the 1970s and 80s, as well as Kenny Scharf who rose to fame in the East Village art scene alongside Jean-Michael Basquiat and Keith Haring, and collaborated with Kim Jones on a Dior collection last year.

Following exhibitions in Los Angeles in 2018 and New York in 2019, Beyond The Streets will be curated by noted graffiti historian Roger Gastman alongside an experienced team of guest curators. Curator and founder Gastman said of his latest endeavour; “The story of graffiti and street art can’t be told without highlighting the significant role London, and the UK in general played in revolutionising these cultures and continuing to spread the word of their existence. Pushing the global narrative has always been of importance to us and we’re honoured to continue telling our story at  Saatchi Gallery, whose prestige and impact are unmatched in the UK.”

Beyond The Streets London will run at Saatchi Gallery from February 17th – May 13th 2023, get your tickets here
