Still, ‘Under the Banner of Heaven’ by David Mackenzie and Isabel Sandoval

The bestselling true-crime novel by Jon Krakauer, Under the Banner of Heaven, has been adapted into a seven-part detective series by Oscar-winning scriptwriter Dustin Lance Black. Directed by David Mackenzie and Isabel Sandoval, a new teaser trailer has just been released and it’s safe to say we’re already hooked.

Set in the 80s, the story investigates The Church of Latter Day Saints’ rise to prominence alongside the 1984 murder of a mother and child in Utah that posed undeniable links to the church. HERO 21 cover star Andrew Garfield is cast as Mormon detective Jeb Pyre tasked with not only solving the case but dissecting the religious extremism at the centre of the murderer’s motive, while Daisy Edgar-Jones plays the brutally murdered Brenda Lafferty.

Completing the ensemble cast alongside Garfield and Edgar-Jones are Sam Worthington, Rory Culkin, Billy Howle and Chloe Pirrie. Under the Banner of Heaven will premiere on Hulu in the US on April 28th and although it’s confirmed to air on Disney+ internationally, an exact date is yet to be released. But one thing’s for sure – we’ll be watching this one religiously.

Under the Banner of Heaven arrives on Hulu April 28th.
