Josh Smith’s expressive brushwork decorates the latest Givenchy campaign
By Ella Joyce | Fashion | 3 February 2022

Last October, the freakish abstract compositions of US artist Josh Smith adorned Matthew M. WilliamsSS22 Givenchy offering. Sunsets melted and psychedelic Grim Reapers reaped across saturated colours and tactile surfaces. Now, Smith and Williams realign for the collection’s corresponding campaign.

Photographed by South Korean photographer Heji Shin, portraits of Kendall Jenner and model Ilias Loopmans are decorated by Smith’s colourful, freestyle brushwork to create vivid works that unite the designer and artist.

Williams said of his latest artistic collaboration, “It was incredible to partner so closely with Josh–someone whose electric work and unencumbered perspective I’ve long admired–on all aspects of this collection including this campaign. To me, his artistic vision represents Givenchy’s modern ethos, and I’m grateful that Josh has let me – and, now, so many others–fully step into and explore his world.”

The imagery is accompanied by a short film shot between Paris and Los Angeles and featuring Kendall Jenner, Iselin Steiro, Steinberg, He Cong, Babacar N’doye and Ilias Loopmans as they stroll through a garden and pluck rose petals – happy Valentine’s month! Hit play below.

The Givenchy Spring-Summer 2022 collection will be available in-store and online on February 18th, 2022.
