Singapore Steez
Youth in Balaclava are the Singapore collective of twenty-somethings bound by a mutual love of fashion, style and individual expression. Hailing from a divergent mixture of backgrounds and daytime professions, the collective navigate daily pressures of family, work and National Service to produce bespoke garments on a virtually non-existent budget.
Having previously been documented by British photographer Ryan O’Toole Collett for Dover Street Market, now the group have produced their official debut collection, Tape 1A. Set to drop tomorrow at DSM locations, the capsule is a follow up to previous collections, Stigma, Twisted Paradise and Traitors 2 $ociety that laid down the foundations of their subversive, cross-referenced style.

The look books that accompanied each of those previous collections are equally impressive; vibrant, collaged mosaics that reflect the mesh of influences represented in the clothes and breathe new life into a tired concept. This time is no different. Set against a harsh industrial setting, the graphic-led collection comes to life in a series of tiled images. The composite images give a real sense of what is a family of friends, one who exceed the sum of their parts through open and collaborative ideals.
Tape 1A is out 4th August at Dover Street Market. Buy it here.
