Generation zen
Ben Cottrell and Matthew Dainty, the designers behind Cottweiler, took a deep dive into a kaleidoscopic, Californian vision of blissed-out dressing. There were acid trip bleeds of lilac and rusty orange, a model carrying a yoga mat and a soundtrack of guru-like mantras as attendees filed in. One model even sported the amusing styling detail of a mark left by a cupping session.
It was refreshing to see a fun-loving, hippyish spin on the tropes Cottweiler pioneered, now staples across the London men’s shows — cross-body bags, webbed belt straps and velcro footwear, to name just a few. Prior to the show, Ben and Matt told us that the collection was informed by their recent travels across Asia and Australia, taking their man “through a transitional period leading him to a more spiritual place.” Nameste, indeed.
