patchwork vortex

This season, Jawara Alleyne took punk to new worlds

Taking layering to task in a world far more transient than here, for FW22 Jawara Alleyne blended a slew of upcycled materials, aged and fresh, separated by frayed edges and safety pins, into a makeshift patchwork vortex informed by gravity and a circular vision of fashion’s future. Perhaps he’s designing for the practical punk who isn’t quite ready for the howling winds of winter, or the semi-exhibitionist yet to embrace their flesh in all of its glory?

Peaking further into a parallel style universe of his own making, Alleyne removed fabricated excess to show sweaty chests in black hole peek-a-boo cuts and deep v-cut shirts, or bares all with exposed pocket linings in reverse blazers and clip-on skirts. It was as if everything was in a fixable state of disrepair: jeans melted off the body bearing a singular phallic safety pin as they contorted around the leg into new materials.
