Acne Studios continued its study of modern masculinity, presenting an eclectic iteration of pieces for this season’s Acne man. Athletic met academia in a series of silhouettes influenced by the archival collegiate wardrobes of college jocks and library bookworms – sharp sportswear collided with preppy chic. “We kept exploring and rebuilding the emblematic codes of the menswear wardrobe,” said Acne Studios’ creative director, Jonny Johansson. “This time, it was with a geeky, quietly confident attitude that beat perfection by far. Our character was cool and unbothered – that’s where his charisma came from.”
Imbued with a nostalgic spirit, the 1970s were heavily referenced throughout in both form and style. Collars were elongated on fitted shirting, silk neckties were paired with light wool polos, and a rich colour palette of burgundy, brown, teal, and purple was very Dazed and Confused. In a meeting of decades, a new slim-cut ‘1979’ jean debuted alongside the brand’s updated ‘2010’ jeans, reimagined in a straight-leg, low-waist silhouette. Further 00s touches appeared in latex-coated denim sets, oversized jogging bottoms, and technical outerwear, adding a playful juxtaposition to Johansson’s 70s protagonist.
