If he’s being honest, Daniel Roseberry hates the word “everyday.” He understands it in the abstract, but sees no reason, at least as far as ready-to-wear is concerned, why any woman should settle for anything less than the extraordinary. 

It’s why Schiaparelli’s SS23 collection is one of multitudes, reaching out its hands (covered with thick, gold jewellery) to all parts of a woman’s life, polished or unpolished. Roseberry was keen on not merely giving the world a taste of the house’s couture codes, but blending them with necessary practicalities that life demands off the red carpet – glamour doesn’t exist in a vacuum. His sumptuous evening gowns are slit deep and wide from the back, his denim twinsets are tailored meticulously, brightened by butt-sculpting explosions of gold glitter and surrealist embroidery. His formal shirting relaxed and expertly coiffed, one colour contrasted edition revealing the mirage of a kind face, buttoned by house signatures like a shiny lock, or scaly serpent.

A trip to Il Pellicano was Roseberry’s meal ticket. The designer spent hours by the pool watching the glamorous guests of the Italian resort, located in the Grosseto province, and studying the minutiae of code switches revealed in outfits for beach days and expensive dinners. Such kindred and resolute spirits are uncontainable, prepared for anything, hence Trompe l’oeil bikini halter knits, and their tastefully embroidered nipples, shimmering gowns of liquid viscose, single strapped swimwear and raucous, rouged minidresses. It’s here also that the nude body is tenderly embraced, reimagined in swirling cone bustiers and puff-sleeved jackets. “These are clothes that make you feel like you’re seeing ready-to-wear for the first time,” said Roseberry, “clothes that build the mystery of the woman.” Solving it, on the other hand, is not in the interest of this designer.
