Boxy candy

Salvatore Ferragamo FW14
12 January 2014

Gone this season were the vivid Missoni zig-zags, replaced with subtly earthy reflections on the subject. It was a statement of relaxation and what fashion can be when its intensity is scaled back a notch.

There was salt in the air: relaxed silhouettes and snug knits layered under deconstructed outerwear suggested hot days and cool nights by the sea. Autumnal tones of brown, plum and burnt orange were cast across knitwear that extended to huge wrap-arounds, hinting at the nip of the evening chill you get on the shoreline.

The collection also paid homage to Missoni’s crowning glory days: the 1970’s. Button up and zipper cardigans were paired with slouchy trousers, while collars and lapels were often oversized or lined with shearling.
