Closer

Prada SS25: a fantasy of illusion and youth
By Barry Pierce | Fashion | 17 June 2024

Out of a hut and along a winding path came the models for Raf Simons’ and Miuccia Prada’s SS25 collection for Prada. The collection was titled Closer, a play on perspective and perception. Thinking of “the human urge for proximity, to share space and commune”, Raf and Miuccia’s SS25 was an invitation for the viewer to get up close and view the garments from a breath’s distance – to see

And when you’re up close, you begin to see it all. Trousers had permanent creases around the crotch, leather belts were actually trompe l’oeil strips of leather sewn around waists, leather hoodies were pre-stressed and stained to give the impression of clothing that has already had a long life, and intarsia knits imitated shirts worn beneath jumpers. Ultimately, however, the collection was a tribute to youth. Huge reflective sunglasses had scenes of concerts and beaches printed on them to create permanent views, while the paintings of the French mid-century artist Bernard Buffet were rendered like “concert t-shirts” and the spontaneity of youth was reflected in the mismatched styling, a juxtaposition of “unanticipated contrasts”.
