A man who can do both

Office/workshop: Solid Homme dissected the duality of modern living

Solid Homme presented a study in the duality of man, exploring the trappings of modernity and the contradictions we inhabit as a byproduct – “One individual, multiple impulses. One wardrobe, many lives,” read the show notes. Aptly titled Dual Shift, the collection’s setting followed suit, staged inside La Maison Des Métallos, where the room was spliced in two. On one side, models sat at desks working away in a makeshift office, while on the other, models entered a carpentry workshop with tools and sawdust strewn across the floor.

A play on the concept of alter egos, the brand looked at clothes not as a costume or disguise but as an extension of one’s alternate reality, building a wardrobe for parallel realities, whatever they may be. Tailoring formed the core of the collection, with heavyweight Chesterfield overcoats, shirt and tie combinations, cuffed suit trousers and structured herringbone jackets. The rigidity of suiting was contradicted by the looseness of workwear; jumpsuits were crafted from lightweight wool or cotton, slouchy sweatpants were paired with precisely cut shirts, and details from the aforementioned workshop punctuated the collection with aprons and gloves appearing in looks throughout.
