hyperreal
Last night, MM6 Maison Margiela closed out the third day of Milan Fashion Week, transforming the streets of the Italian capital into a runway. Inviting guests into a hyperreal version of reality, the residential street was washed with a pristine white runway, staging a blank canvas for MM6 to paint their SS26 portrait.
Streamlined silhouettes appeared in quick succession, forming the base of a collection that played with colour, proportion and form. A stationary shop colour palette of Post-it note neons and highlighter pen hues saw neutral looks accented by pops of orange and pink, or twin-set co-ords arrive in contrasting yellows and greens. Themes of illusion mean not all garments were as they seemed, sheer tulle peeked out from knitted dresses, transparent inserts created trompe l’oeil cutaway effects and Bardot necklines allowed flashes of geometric, floral and striped prints to appear from beneath. On foot, metallic shoes reflected off the city’s street lamps while each model sported a pair of shielding sunglasses, adding to the elusive nature of MM6’s latest offering.
