Twisted and undone

MM6 Maison Margiela: archetypes distorted in transit
By Alex James Taylor | Fashion | 26 February 2026

At Milano Centrale, MM6 set its scene in transit. Arrivals, departures, mid-journeys, missed connections. Train stations are prime people-watching spots, and this season MM6 Maison Margiela turned that into a study of archetypes – only exaggerated and twisted.

Models walked with their faces shielded by the brand’s signature concealing sunglasses – sci-fi bands a la Geordi La Forge (if you know, you know) – and Barbarella white boots on foot, hinting at futuristic disruption. Through the brand’s codes of reduction and subversion, checked shirts, denim jackets, tracksuit tops, ski jumpers and horse fleeces were tweaked and disrupted: ribbed jersey backs slicing silhouettes into slim vertical lines, linings pulled loose, hems rolled and fastened with snaps, and proportions slightly askew. Tracksuits morphed into knitted neckpieces. Aprons reimagined as skirts. Jeans left undone to reveal another layer below. A trench with contrasting sleeves spliced and flipped. Looks repeating in subtle variations. Earrings still in their retail cards, and rings missing their stones. In a world filled with images caught between reality and fiction, this collection grazed the uncanny valley. The everyday, but slightly off.
