Long hot summer

Miu Miu SS24: gap yah holidays, sticky summer nights and Troye Sivan

HERO 30 cover star Troye Sivan walked the Miu Miu SS24 show, making his runway debut in breezy drawstring swimshorts, polo, shirt and boating shoes. Hair wet and slicked, it was all very Call Me By My Name. The collection encapsulated this feeling of youthful travelling. Of jumping on a plane with just a backpack, of staying up all night on a warm beach, of living for the moment. The crack of thunder sounded down from above, adding to that hot, sticky summer vibe. Preppy branded polos and knits were worn with neon speedos, blazers, Harringtons and ruffled mini-skirts with raw hems that looked like they’d been sliced to extra skimpy proportions. Clothing spilt out of bags held by models, like they’d been booted out of their hotel room and had to gather everything immediately. Swimwear peeped from beneath voluminous hip-grazing trousers (ready for spontaneous ocean dips) and sneakers were tied with mismatching laces. Flip-flops and ankle bracelets spoke of gap yah vacations, continuing the preppy-Abercrombie-feel theme of the whole collection. Cailee Spaeny, star of Sofia Coppola’s upcoming film Priscilla closed the show wearing a sculptural coat held closed.

And this season marked a few special moments for the Miu Miu family: at the end of the show, Miuccia Prada took her bow with Fabio Zambernardi, who leaves his role as design director of Prada and Miu Miu after twenty years – perhaps a long hot holiday wearing Prada SS24 is in order – while this year is also the 30th anniversary of the brand. The Miu Miu woman may be hitting a new decade, but she’s still not lost any of her edge.
