Edge of Seventeen
Under the glass atrium of the Royal Opera House’s Paul Hamlyn Hall, Daniel Fletcher introduced his sophomore collection for Mithridate. As a designer, Fletcher has become known for his distinctly British take on preppiness, often drawing from the wardrobe of the Sloane Ranger with frequent nods to aristocratic styling and the King’s Road set. As we saw with his debut collection for Mithridate last season, Fletcher has translated his characteristic style to the Chinese brand.
To the tune of Stevie Nicks’ Edge of Seventeen (the song which also gave his SS26 collection its title), Fletcher introduced us to his haughty revellers, racing back from a day in the country to tear up the Royal Borough. It was a real day-to-night collection. The rugby shirts and shorts on the boys made way for ribbed long-sleeves and double-breasted suits, worn open, with leather doctor bags in hand. For the girls, we saw some of Fletcher’s most audacious designs yet, such as a strapless dress in an all-over tapestry floral pattern and a puffball dress made from taffeta drapes.
