Rooted and suited
Since becoming the Mithridate creative director in 2025, Daniel Fletcher has found himself constantly travelling between Guangzhou, where the house was founded, and London, where it is being reframed. And as the miles rack up, so do the ideas, with Fletcher mining and merging references that flicker between each city. This season honed in on a historic and horticultural link: wisteria.
Quick history lesson: the first wisteria cuttings introduced to Europe were brought from Guangzhou in the early 19th century by naturalist John Reeves. Fast forward to today and the plant continues to thrive along the River Thames, not far from Fletcher’s studio in Borough – proof that something can travel far and still take root. “That journey of the Chinese wisteria planting long-lasting roots in England feels emblematic of my own journey with Mithridate,” said Fletcher. “The roots of the brand have now firmly established themselves in their new London home.”
With this in mind, the collection traces a journey – and a figure on a new path. Told through Fletcher’s signature Britishisms, tweed coats, Aran sweaters and Fair Isle knits were layered and slightly oversized, prepared for bracing walks across open land, while exaggerated shearling headwear provided additional protection. Elsewhere, maritime duffle coats and naval pea coats hint at departures and crossings, as sharp black-tie tailoring and mini skirts seduce under city lights. Details become souvenirs gathered along the way. Fallen snow and scattered petals became lasting motifs, alongside Mithridate-branded tie clips, watch strap-inspired bracelets, and numbers – a signature since Fletcher arrived – embellished as diamante brooches.
The journey culminates at Mithridate’s new Borough home, its famed market inspiring vibrant tones, wild florals, and abstract oversized labels inspired by those seen across traders’ stalls.
