Futuristic sunset

Missoni FW17

Building on the burning colour palette of their SS17 show, Missoni continued in an evocative vein for FW17. As is natural for the Italian knitwear house, the collection made only subtle departures from past ventures, the noticeable changes coming in the augmentation of a bold colour palette and through dramatic colour clashing.

Models walked in front of a sculpture created from metal grids, breaking up a glaring yellow light resembling a futuristic sunset. Last season, Angela Missoni drew on South American terrain as inspiration, and this mood had not been left behind. Cosy knits in warm gradients were worn alongside checked trousers and the scarves patterned with the iconic Missoni zig-zag motif.

This patchwork of colours and textures made a strong case for winter layering and functionality, with almost every model wearing a contrasting hat and rubber-soled shoe. Comfort and eclecticism prevailed, with retro glasses also communicating that intellectualism and outlandishness do not have to be mutually exclusive.
