Maximilian FW22 rallied against the anti-sex catholicism of his youth

When he’s not enchanting the world’s greatest musicians and fashion icons in harlequin jeans and lengthy, gothic gowns, Maximilian Davis is hard at work in the studio, building a label that set to soar following the third and final instalment of his Fashion East tenure.

For FW22, an unbridled technical skill was the designer’s calling card, through which he flexed his tailoring chops in streamlined jackets with hourglass silhouettes and staunch overcoats that emphasised tall, slender bodies. Rallying against the anti-sex catholicism prevalent in the catholic school of his youth, whilst also acknowledging the importance religion holds to his family, the effort was underscored by a thread of the ethereal: manifesting in form-fitting crêpe gowns with thick hoods and wrap neck fairy dresses whose slashed skirts withered against the thigh.

Toying with a fable-like palette of forest hues and the odd sprinkle of white satin and hazy lavender, a rich, tactile brown formed the prevailing uniform in suede jackets and elegant gloves – their furry trims and sheeny exteriors sometimes cropped, sometimes skin-tight. They echoed an air of loose rigidity seen in corresponding denim midi dresses and eyecatching leather jackets – the type Lara Croft would wear to a movie premiere after letting a legion of bad guys in for a world of pain.
