Teen dreams

KidSuper’s Colm Dillane set a scene of childish imagination at Louis Vuitton

A yellow Cadillac parked on a stretch of fake grass; a sitcom-style set with rooms that symbolised various stages of life. The Cour Carrée du Louvre had been transformed by French filmmakers Michel and Olivier Gondry as a playground for Louis Vuitton’s Studio Prêt-à-Porter Homme to present their collective creative vision alongside American guest designer Colm Dillane, founder of KidSuper.

Singer Rosalía mounted the car to begin her live performance as models walked between the rooms, pausing to rifle through toy chests or play a quick game of darts, signalling that this collection was all about tapping into a childlike curiosity. The team explored the idea of growing up too fast, presenting pieces that were recognisably adult but “imbued with the inner child.” Boxy suiting separates and shirts were imaginative in construction, featuring extra sleeves and abstract necklines. Double-breasted coats and jackets emblazoned with a geometrical tartan check offered a rebellious take on tradition, as a collage-style embroidered zip hoodie and baggy pants depicted emblems of teenage life.

As members of the first generation raised in a super-connected world, the references to the impact of technology were also rife. The Apple icon was manipulated into a pop art-like pattern and used across overcoats, with phrases like “Blurry vision of a bright future” rendered in fil-coupé. Imagined faces from Dillane’s artworks were turned into prints, as well as a camouflage-effect pattern featuring the LV monogram. As the first collection involving a guest designer since Virgil Abloh’s passing, it seemed fitting for the Louis Vuitton collective to contemplate what it truly means to connect – both with one’s self and the surrounding community.
