Lou Dalton flipped her usual work on its head this season. Where previously she has looked to the past for inspiration, referencing characters, roles and settings from her childhood, come SS15 it was time to look inwards.

This was a “homecoming”; a gentle journey in self-reflection, tailoring softened via colour and relaxed cut. The influence of Robert Mapplethorpe’s images of flowers ran as a strong undercurrent. These works may be quieter than the late photographer’s portraiture yet they’re no less powerful – in the same way Dalton’s journey this season heralded a good slap around the face.
