all tomorrow’s parties

Lanvin FW21
Fashion | 8 March 2021

For FW21, Lanvin served all the riches, baby. Presented as a satire of Gwen Stefani’s MTV music video for Rich Girl, models daydreamed of partying in fabulous frothy gowns, and being interrupted during bathroom karaoke by a FaceTime from Eve who, making a cameo, reprises her rap from the Y2K bop (quasi-relatable content).

The whole collection was an ode to the silly joy of dressing up. Creative director Bruno Sialelli whimsically proposed garments as perfume: ostrich feathers drifted like a “soft ‘sugar cloud’ of pastel colour”, while a collaboration with the James Rosenquist Foundation introduced bright pop-culture motifs from the American artist. The menswear was a little more low-key in cut, but enlivened by bright colours and glam textures. Dancing with the transformative, mood-boosting magics of fashion, these weren’t just clothes to party in, they were the party.
